Mahakumbh - A Spiritual Journey
What is the relation of Maha Kumbh with our life? Does Kumbh give any message in our personal life?
Mahakumbh is an important festival among the spiritual festivals in our country. Maha Kumbh is celebrated by taking bath in Ganga at Sangam Sthal in Prayagraj, India.
These are some questions that must be arising in everyone's mind many times.
Let us look closely at the spiritual aspect of this festival and ponder a little on the relation of Maha Kumbh with our personal life. People are coming to Maha Kumbh from far and wide so that they can connect with one God and move forward to bring his memory into their life. It is an amazing fact that India is the only country that performs a ritual like Maha Kumbh for devotion to God. If we look at foreign countries or any other country outside India, people there serve alcohol and meat in the name of spiritual festivals, but there is no country that would suffer so much, struggle so much in the world in search of God, in the desire of God, to connect with God. So Maha Kumbh is the heritage of us Indians, it is the faith to connect with that God. Swami Divyanand Ji Maharaj used to say that if you understand what this Maha Kumbh is, then every moment of your life will be meaningful.
Kumbh means 'vessel', a vessel in which you keep or cook anything. If we are cooking something in a vessel, then we put different types of ingredients in that food, but whatever comes out ready will include everything. We cannot survive by eating only salt, we cannot survive by drinking only water, the food material that comes to us will nourish us. God has established such a Kumbh in our body. We will get happiness, sorrow, good and bad in life, many types of struggles will come, but what will we bring out from within us at that time, what will we bring out so that we can get through that time comfortably
There are many turns in our life where we only complain to God, but we also have another option which is prayer. We can also pray to that God instead of complaining. We can also say that O Lord, please make us tolerant in this time of adversity so that we can easily accept the circumstances and move forward. What comes out of our body when many such problems, sorrows, adversities etc. come, how do we take it, what is our conclusion, Maha Kumbh wants to explain the same to us.
People come from far and wide to Kumbh and share and coordinate their thoughts to connect with God. Suppose someone is very sad due to his problems and he comes to such a gathering where someone else reduces his sadness with his thoughts with some positivity, then it is like there was excess salt in the food but its saltiness reduces a little by mixing it with water. It is possible that some other loving soul comes and reduces the bitterness within us a little, makes our sadness bearable, creates faith in us again, we came in trouble but our trust is restored, this Kumbh is one such place where the people around us come with only faith.
In the same way, we get one or sometimes ten satsangs in a month but the question is what do we take with us from this satsang like Kumbh, what descends within us, does this satsang like Kumbh awaken faith in us towards that God or do we just wash our hands off it and go away. Similarly, the life we have got for 60, 70, 80 years, God is giving us many such opportunities in it which help us to connect with Him. God is giving us happiness as well as sorrows in our life. But there is only one reason behind it that we should not get so engrossed in the happiness that we forget the kindness given by God. We should remember that it is God who has given us happiness and not we who are the doers. If we were the ones who were enjoying happiness, then why would we let crisis, sorrow or trouble come in our life? But God has given it and we are grateful to Him for this. If we face sorrow in life, then we should remember that no father gives sorrow to his children. Even if the child is doing well, many times the father pretends to be angry, he wants his child to do well and he should develop. Similarly, in our struggles, we have to keep in mind that God wants to teach us something. We should have such faith in our Guru that if we face some crisis in our life, we should not get upset or if we get happiness, we should not become immoral, rather we should be able to trust the Guru in both the situations.
We have to make an ideal in our life that the Kumbh in the form of Satsang is such a holy place where one can connect with the flow of Guru, connect with that Sanatan, spend time with such loving beings. We will get that Sanatan flow only when we are ready to lose our existence. A lump of salt will lose its saltiness only if it is ready to dissolve in water. If we come to the Kumbh in the form of Satsang and someone gives us even a little knowledge of our form and we have courage, are ready to change ourselves, then we will always get knowledge from such Kumbh and we will get a huge inheritance of Guru's grace in our life.
Satsang always teaches us two things. First, we should have the ability to listen, if someone is saying bad things to us, then we should listen to him without any anger.
